This was taken many years ago when I was working for a friend of mine shooting sport.
I'd done an assignment across town one evening and on my way home I noticed the lights on at Albert Park with a thick fog. It was June.
We don't often get fog so I was excited to capture it. I saw some people playing on the sporting fields and immediately had a vision of players in a line coming out of the fog into the frame - Close Encounters of the Third Kind like...
"If only I had my camera!" I thought to myself. I still notoriously leave my camera at home when I should carry it with me at all times.
"Hold on, I do have it!" I realised!
Pulling up next to the field, I noticed these guys playing a weird game of frisbee. It's apparently known as Ultimate Frisbee. Think of rugby where you have to get the frisbee into the opposition's end zone.
The light wasn't great given it was dark so I was shooting around ISO 800. I banged off a few frames - this being one of them - and thought "Wow I just nailed it".
I hung around for another 15 mins or so but nothing beat the one I already had.
I came home that night, walked in the door and said, "I think I've just shot the best photo of my life!"
Now you may be thinking 'so what' about this shot. Understandable. But for me it's about the timing and composition.
The guy's outstretched hand. The frisbee touching his fingers. His thighs bulging. The other players in the background perfectly placed. Their sense of anticipation of whether he'll reach the frisbee.
All those elements combined with the low light and the fact I'd never shot, let alone, seen this game before meant it still is one of the best shots I've taken.

We prefer to ship artwork to you framed (of course, unframed prints work best when ordering from outside Australia). We believe in quality, framed artwork delivered directly to your door and ready to hang. That's service. No more finding a framer, wondering if you’re paying too much, painfully choosing from myriad of frame options then waiting weeks for the job to be done.
- We use only the best quality materials to ensure your print will look amazing and last forever.
- We have just 3 frames to choose from - raw oak, black or white. That’s it.
- Our shadow box framing is stylish and contemporary. We’re sure it will look smashing in your home or office.
- The deep frame has the print sit out from the wall to give it substance and style.
- Your print is printed on archival quality papers with archival inks, ensuring your print won’t fade or wrinkle.
- Your Tom Putt Print comes signed and a small title is added to the left hand corner.
- The sizes on the website are for the overall print size - which includes the frame and the digital matt (a white border is added to the print rather than a traditional matt board).
Your beautiful artwork will take just 8 weeks to arrive (slightly longer for orders outside of Australia).
