McCrae Swimmers, Mornington Peninsula, VIC
THE STORY
The Mornington Peninsula looked stunning that summer, with clear blue skies stretching overhead. Between Christmas and New Year, during a rare 35-degree heatwave in Melbourne, I decided to capture its beauty from the air. I chartered a small plane and, by mid-afternoon, was flying over Port Phillip Bay. The beaches were packed with families, surfers, and sunbathers enjoying the hot weather, while the clear water revealed fish swimming below. The calm waves and golden sands created the perfect scene to photograph.
As the plane followed the coastline, I took in the rugged cliffs, hidden coves, and green vegetation of the back beaches. The sunlight and shadows made the landscape even more striking, with deep blue waters contrasting against the bright sand. Every photo I took felt like a piece of the peninsula’s natural beauty frozen in time. As we landed, I couldn’t wait to see how the pictures turned out. It had been a special day, full of inspiration and the simple beauty of nature.
