In the far remote Kimberley region lies Mitchell Falls, one of the highest and most spectacular waterfalls in Australia. For landscape photographers, a pilgrimage to Mitchell Falls is almost a rite of passage. It's a journey that tests your endurance and rewards your spirit, proving that you haven't truly made it until you've captured its majesty.

The trek to Mitchell Falls begins with an arduous 8-hour drive from the nearest town, navigating rough corrugated roads and numerous deep-water crossings. This challenging drive is an adventure in itself, filled with the anticipation of the breathtaking views that await. Upon arrival at the campsite, you're greeted with yet another challenge: an hour-long hike to the falls, including a demanding river crossing at the top where the water rushes swiftly.

I arrived in the middle of the afternoon, greeted by the bustling activity of helicopters ferrying tourists to and from the camp. By 3:30 PM, the choppers had vanished, and I found myself alone in this stunning, remote wilderness.

Sitting atop a 60-meter cliff opposite the falls, I took in the surreal scenery, all the more special as it was my birthday. The sense of isolation was profound, making me feel like the only person alive in that moment. I waited patiently for the right light, the anticipation building as the afternoon wore on.

As the sun dipped lower in the sky, a shadow slowly enveloped the falls while the adjacent escarpment remained bathed in golden light. This golden light reflected off the cascading water, creating a mesmerizing effect that looked like 'liquid gold'. Capturing this magical moment through my lens was the culmination of the journey, a testament to the beauty and raw power of nature.

Long after the sun had set, I carefully made my way back across the river in the semi-darkness, guided by the lingering glow of twilight. The final 30-minute walk back to camp was in complete darkness, adding a sense of adventure to the experience. Upon returning, I was welcomed with a cold beer and delicious red wine-marinated kangaroo fillets for dinner.

The journey to Mitchell Falls was more than just a photographic expedition; it was an immersive experience of nature's grandeur, solitude, and the joy of capturing fleeting moments in a timeless landscape. The hardships of the journey made the beauty of the falls even more rewarding, etching the experience into my memory as one of the most remarkable adventures of my life.

Great question! Here's what we recommend...

CANVAS - On trend (we sell heaps) and great for most homes with lots of windows. Soaks up the reflection.
ACRYLIC - On trend with its frameless look. Suits modern homes with big white walls. Highly reflective though.
METAL - The shinny version of canvas. It's framed the same way but instead is very shinny and flat.
FRAMED - Traditional look however we don't sell many framed prints these days.
ROLLED - Perfect if you have your own framer however, remember framing is expensive!
