Lake Mokoan, Victoria

THE STORY BEHIND THE PHOTO

Photographing Lake Mokoan and its haunting dead trees in the water was an eerie and captivating experience, a journey into a surreal and tranquil realm. The lake, located in Victoria, Australia, had been a site of historical significance, and its transformation into a reservoir had left a haunting landscape that beckoned to my camera lens.

As I approached the shores of Lake Mokoan, I was immediately struck by the ethereal scene before me. The water, once part of the Goulburn River, had submerged the surrounding forest, leaving dead trees standing like eerie sentinels in the still, reflective waters. The stark and skeletal forms of these trees rose from the depths, their desolation a testament to the passage of time.

With my camera in hand, I waded into the shallows to capture the haunting beauty of this submerged forest. The stillness of the water and the reflections of the dead trees added an air of serenity to the photographs. The play of light and shadow on the surface of the lake gave depth and dimension to the images.

Photographing Lake Mokoan and its dead trees was both a challenge and a privilege. The subdued lighting conditions demanded precise exposure settings, and the eeriness of the scene required careful composition to convey the haunting atmosphere. Each photograph aimed to capture the surreal and tranquil beauty of this submerged forest.

As I framed my shots, I couldn't help but be captivated by the juxtaposition of life and death in this unique landscape. The dead trees, once vibrant and thriving, were now preserved in a state of haunting stillness. Lake Mokoan was a place where the past and the present coexisted in a delicate balance, a reminder of the ever-changing forces of nature and time.
