Craig's Hut was made famous in the 1980's iconic Australian film 'The Man from Snowy River'. God I love that film!

Whilst I'd visited this hut a few times, I yearned to get a shot different from the many other taken over the years. With my passion for snow landscapes, I was excited to know whether or not I could get a photograph of Craig's Hut with snow on it. How good would that be??

I did hours of research to find out whether this area received snow. It is relatively low at just 1400m, so it really requires a good dump of snow for any decent coverage.

Next was to find out how to get there in winter. The main road to Craig's Hut is closed during the snow season, so I needed another way to get there.

Guess what?

Walking was the only option. This requires me carrying over 30kgs of snow camping gear and camera equipment up over Mount Stirling to Craig's Hut - a 4 hour hike through the snow. WOW was I fit enough for this challenge? Time would tell.

I waited patiently for the right conditions. My backpack stayed ready at my front door for days. Eventually a strong cold front cross mountains and I was SO EXCITED to be on my way.

I arrived at the carpark at Mount Stirling and made my way up the mountain. Soon I was above the snow line and my snow shoes crunched deep into the snow. It was a white-out on the mountain and the wind blew hard into my face. I was thankful to get amongst the trees and make my way towards Craig's Hut.

Up another steep incline and down the other side and I was finally there. What a trek!

However, my excitement soon turned to disappointment. Whilst I expected that the storm would have brought plenty of snow to the area, there was hardly any. BUMMER. It certainly wasn't enough for the photos I was after.

So I took stock, figured I should make camp and see what the morning brought. AS I lay in bed that night, I heard the faint sound of snow falling on my tent.

I woke very early the next morning, not wanting to miss the sunrise. To my surprise and absolute pleasure, there had been enough snow to turn the landscape into a winter wonderland.

As I set my tripod up, there was a problem. The freezing conditions the night before had frozen the legs of my tripod together. OH NO! There was just one way to fix it. Water. Boiling water.

Once that problem was solved, there was another - keeping my footprints out of my shots in the fresh snow. I carefully approach the Hut and took a deep breath of the cold air to calm my nerves.

Soon the stunning high country glow lit up the Hut and I was blessed with the photographs that I'd longed to capture.

FRAMED PRINTS

We love our Framed Prints. Our stunning Deep Shadow Box Frames (with that sexy spacer between the frame and the print) are just to die for (Frame Measurements - 30mm wide by 40mm deep). The spacer allows the print to sit back from the glass, ensuring it doesn't touch and ruin your print. Offering the best in contemporary framing, your framed print will look AMAZING on your wall. Your print is printed on archival quality papers with archival inks, ensuring your print won’t fade or wrinkle. Your Tom Putt Print comes digitally signed and a small title is added to the left hand corner.

Your print is between two pieces of acrylic (approx. 5mm thick). The artwork is then hung on the wall using a baton system. Many of our buyers like this finish as it sits close to the wall. METAL FRAMED PRINT

What the heck is a Metal Print? I know, I thought the same! A Metal Print is a photographic print heat-adhered to a thin piece of aluminium, approximately 2mm thick. This keeps the print extremely flat. The print is coated with a high gloss vanish to protect it from dust, moisture, finger prints, etc. Your Metal Print has incredible impact and comes finished with a Deep Shadow Box Frame in Raw Oak, White or Black (Frame Measurements - 10mm wide by 55mm deep). This finish suits art that has punchy colours that you want to highlight in a room that has minimal reflections.

ROLLED PRINTS

Sometimes the simple things in life are often the best. A rolled print is ready for you to do with it what you want. All our rolled prints come with a white border to help it frame superbly. That means that you don't need to pay extra for matting when framing it. The white border is approx. 70mm wide on each side for artwork under 100cms (longest edge) and 90mm for artwork over 100cms. This white border is included in the total size of the print.

Whatever your motivation is for purchasing artwork, we love helping you in finding the right artwork for you. Let's tackle each reason in detail:

1. BLANK WALLS NEED TO BE FILLED

If artwork is purchased to fill your walls, choosing based on the style and colour scheme is a great place to start. What is the style of your home? Is it Hamptons? Modern? Classic? This will determine the style of the artwork and medium it is presented on. For example, a Hamptons style home needs a beach scene presented in a white shadow box frame. A metal or acrylic artwork will suit a modern home that is light-filled with big white walls. What colour is your furniture? The flooring? The colour of your walls? Many homes these days have neutral tones and timber flooring, therefore the raw oak shadow box frames work very well - and our most popular selling frame. Is your home light-filled or darker? A darker style of home may need a brighter image to be seen.

◦ Entrance - this should be a statement piece that has the WOW factor when anyone visits your home. Our 150 x 100cms artworks work well in an entrance.
◦ Living Room - an artwork that evokes a sense of family and belonging works well in a living room. Our 150 x 100cms artworks work well in an Living Room.
◦ Bedrooms - being a personal space, an artwork that has meaning to you is important. Our 100 x 75cms or 150 x 100cms work well depending on the size of the walls (see the section below on PRINT SIZES).
◦ Hallway - if the artwork is going in your hallway, make sure the artwork is not too large. Otherwise you won't be able to stand back far enough to appreciate the artwork. Our 60 x 40cms are perfect for this. A large vertical artwork is perfect at the end of the hallway to draw your eye in. Our 100 x 75cms and 150 x 100cms artworks work well in this space.

3. PRINT SIZES

Your artwork size depends mainly on the size of the wall your placing it on. As a general rule, the artwork should take up approximately 1/2 to 2/3 of the wall space width. For example, a 3m wide wall should have a 1.5m to 2m wide artwork to fill that space. Any smaller and the artwork will get lost. Here's a guide for the more popular spaces in your home:

◦ Entrance - 100 x 75cms or larger, depending on the space.
◦ Living Room - 150cms wide for a 2 seater couch; 150cms plus for a 3 seater couch.
◦ Bedrooms - 150cms wide for above a queen-sized bed or other wall.
◦ Hallway - 60 x 40cms for narrow hallways; 100 x 75cms or larger for the end of a hallway.
◦ Study - 60 x 40cms or larger
