Lighthouse Storm, Cape Otway - Great Ocean Road VIC
THE STORY BEHIND THE PHOTO
The rugged coastline of Victoria's south was known for its dramatic weather and iconic landscapes, and I was determined to capture the wild beauty of the Cape Otway Lighthouse during a fierce storm.
The day began with an ominous sky, as dark clouds gathered on the horizon. The wind carried the scent of the ocean, and the sound of crashing waves echoed through the air. I knew that a significant storm was approaching, and this presented the perfect opportunity to capture the untamed power of nature.
As I arrived at Cape Otway, the lighthouse stood tall and defiant against the brewing tempest. The towering structure, with its vivid red and white stripes, was a stark contrast to the tumultuous skies and churning sea. The rain-laden winds howled and whipped around me as I set up my camera equipment.
Photographing the Lighthouse Storm was no small feat. The rapidly changing lighting conditions and the relentless wind and rain demanded precise timing and settings. The dramatic contrast between the lighthouse and the stormy skies required careful adjustments to capture the scene's intensity and beauty.
With determination, I captured the moment when a bolt of lightning cracked through the skies, illuminating the lighthouse in a brilliant, otherworldly glow. The composition aimed to convey the incredible power and vulnerability of the scene, with the lighthouse standing as a beacon of strength against the forces of nature.
As I framed my shots, I couldn't help but be captivated by the symbiosis of elements—the fierce and unyielding power of the storm, and the steadfast, guiding presence of the lighthouse. Cape Otway was a place where the human spirit and the natural world came together in a tumultuous dance, and I was fortunate to have captured that powerful moment through the lens of my camera.
Leaving Cape Otway and the stormy spectacle behind, I carried with me a deep sense of respect for the forces of nature and the enduring resilience of human structures. The photographs I had taken were not just images; they were a testament to the incredible beauty and power that could be found when the natural world and human creations converged.
Photographing the Lighthouse Storm at Cape Otway had allowed me to immerse myself in a world of dramatic beauty and raw energy. It was a reminder that even in the most formidable and tempestuous corners of the earth, there was a story to be told and an awe-inspiring display of nature to be captured through the lens of my camera. Cape Otway was a place where the human spirit could find both humility and inspiration in the grandeur of the natural world, and I was fortunate to have captured that electrifying moment.

WHICH FINISH?
Great question! Here's what we recommend...
- CANVAS - On trend (we sell heaps) and great for most homes with lots of windows. Soaks up the reflection.
- ACRYLIC - On trend with its frameless look. Suits modern homes with big white walls. Highly reflective though.
- METAL - The shinny version of canvas. It's framed the same way but instead is very shinny and flat.
- FRAMED - Traditional look however we don't sell many framed prints these days.
- ROLLED - Perfect if you have your own framer however, remember framing is expensive!
