DAY TWO
  • Sunrise shoot at Kalimina Gorge
  • Afternoon shoot at Dales Gorge and Fern Pool

TESTIMONIALS FROM THIS WORKSHOP
"Having experienced five workshops to date, I would say that to participate in an Inspire Landscape workshop means personal attention from start to finish and five star treatment. Tom is a fantastic teacher with a tremendous amount of patience. Aside from being educational, his workshops are always loads of fun."
"I have been waiting for Tom's 2016 Karijini Photographic Workshop since I read about it in July 2015. Having visited Karijini NP briefly in 2013 I knew it was a place I wanted to return to with my camera, more time and preferably with a Professional Leader. I wasn't disappointed with the outcome. I expected to be physically challenged to get to the photographic sites deep within the gorges but Tom made sure that everyone in the group experienced Karijini within their comfort zone. Being a novice with my camera I feel as if I have taken a quantum leap in skills under Tom's guidance. There were features on my Canon 6D that I didn't know how to use that Tom quickly sorted out along with his tuition on Lightroom since I had always been a little wary of using post-processing technology. The workshop certainly improved my confidence in using my camera and I look forward to attending another Tom Putt workshop down the track."

"Having just returned from Tom Putt's 2015 Karijini Photography Workshop, I would thoroughly recommend the great experience he provides.  It is well organised, gets you to all the major highlights and allows flexibility to pursue those enticing opportunities that may present themselves on the journey.  Not only does Tom safely get you to the right places at the best times but he also offers expert advice on compositions, camera settings and when the light is best so your images will impress family and friends.  He will also get you organised for the activities and provide whatever help and assistance needed to make sure you can participate safely.  The remote location and basic facilities add to the sense of adventure and the stories you can tell will keep family and friends entertained for months.  The transport provided by Tom was excellent and the Eco Retreat accommodation and services are great. Not only will you get many great images but have an enjoyable and satisfying remote adventure."  Neil Mounsher, Melbourne.

"My husband and I had an amazing, unique time during the Karijini Photography Workshop, which was way beyond our expectations. My husband went along as a non-participating member. He was able to follow along with the rest of us and enjoy all of this experience. Tom made sure we got the most out of our time visiting the gorges and capturing these stunning locations at the best times of the day, even when it meant very early mornings shoots. This paid off with some beautiful pictures taken by all. Tom encouraged us all to stop, look and take in the beauty that was around us. The group size was perfect for one on one help when needed. Tom’s fantastic ability to pass on his knowledge, experience and passion was second to none. I certainly have come away from this workshop with a lot more ideas and ways of approaching the subjects that I am going to photograph. His easy to understand explanations of work flow in Lightroom was a great help. Thanks Tom for a wonderful experience." Leanne and Chris NSW.

"The Inspire Landscapes Karijini Photography Workshop was simply amazing. Tom took all the time each participant needed to hone existing skills as well as new ones. He encouraged us to slow down, explore the locations, evaluate the light from an artistic as well as technical perspective, which helped us all gather some of the best images we'd captured to date.
Karijini National Park is a jaw-dropping location to start with, but Tom made sure we were able to access these remote locations at the right time of day so the light was just right.
On top of the emphasis on stunning photography, Tom proved full of knowledge of the location and the best ways to capture the stunning light around us, they were fun and made sure everyone had a great time for the duration of the workshop."  Sean, NSW.

"A great workshop in an amazing location. Tom took us to some stunning locations and provided excellent guidance. A lot of fun with a great group of photographers. My highlight was visiting Hancock Gorge and swimming through pools with my camera gear - crazy!" Sean, NSW.

"The Karijini Photography Workshop was simply amazing on so many levels. Tom was a great teacher and tour leader. The terrain was breath taking and challenging physically but I felt safe at all times which gave me the confidence to go to places I would not have gone to without the expert guidance.  Over the period of the workshop my photographic knowledge and skill improved noticeably. I will definitely be doing another Inspire Workshop. Thanks a million! My highlight was swimming through gorges to get "the shot". Fran, SA

"A fantastic few days of adventure and new things and awesome photographic opportunities. Tom and Paul looked after us a treat having sought out all the best spots and best times of day and made sure we were safe and tearing and most of all enjoying! Accommodation was perfect for the occasion although we only get back to our room/tents for a few hours sleep before the next sunrise! I learned lots and have some great pics and memories. A big thanks to Tom, great experience and would highly recommended!" Libby, VIC

YOUR LEADER

Hi I'm Tom Putt and I'll be leading you on this AMAZING Karijini Photo Workshop. This will be my fourth workshop here and I can't wait to show you all the stunning photo opportunities. Karijini truly is a remarkable place.

A little bit more about me - I am passionate and wildly enthusiastic about photography, having spent the last 20 years exploring all parts of Australia to photograph landscapes.

I first fell in love with photography at age 13. I photographed wildlife, following my love for ornithology, before leaving university to pursue a career in sports photography. In 1998, I was fortunate enough to take the eye of Australia's leading sports photography agency, Sport the Library. From 1998 to 2001, I covered over 300 events across Australia and the world, including the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

But my passion has always been in landscape photography. My first shoot was walking the Overland Track in 1997. Since then, I have travelled extensively across Australia to capture the beauty of this great land.

I am a Master of Photography and have won over 100 Awards in both International and National Competitions. In 2014, I was awarded the International Landscape Photographer of the Year Runner-up.

TRAVEL INFORMATION

  • Arrive and Depart Paraburdoo Airport, Western Australia. Private 4wd vehicles collect you from the airport to Karijini Eco Retreat (2 hours).

EXPERIENCE / DIFFICULTY

  • Beginner, Amateur, Enthusiast, Semi-professional, Professional.
  • Busy schedule.
  • Walking difficult. Steep decents into gorges. Slippery rocks, swimming with packs through waterholes up to 30m. A good sense of balance and fitness is essential.
  • Travel by 4WD cars.
  • 1 Eco Retreat across 4 nights.
  • All our workshops require a good sense of balance and a good level of fitness in order to fully enjoy all the experiences. We regularly walk to fantastic locations for up to an hour at any a time but in one day you could be walking up to 3 to 4 hours in total. This may require walking over uneven ground, rocky surfaces, soft sand, deep snow, up and down hills, rock hopping, hiking to lookouts, etc. Some walks are steep and strenuous, others are on uneven surfaces. To get the best photographs you will be carrying your own backpack with your camera gear, tripod, water and lunch. Whilst we do not look to exclude anyone, being fit is essential to participate fully in the workshop.

GEAR REQUIREMENTS

  • A backpack (that can be immersed in water) with a good dry sack inside containing your camera gear.  The backpack option is also great for the swimming/deep wading sections and as an extra benefit, provides some additional floatation assistance.  If your existing camera backpack is too bulky, you might want to consider a smaller/narrower pack for these sections of the workshop or repacking essential items into a smaller container. By the way, most tripods don’t mind a dunking in fresh water and can be easily clipped onto your backpack.
