Victorian High Country Photography Workshop
VICTORIAN HIGH COUNTRY PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP
22nd to 26th July 2019
There's no better place to shoot snow landscapes in Australia than Mount Hotham/Dinner Plain. Being Victoria's highest ski resort, Mount Hotham and Dinner Plain is the perfect place to base ourselves for a stunning snow photography workshop.
Arriving at Melbourne airport, we'll collect you in our private vehicle where we'll travel to Dinner Plain just below the summit of Mount Hotham. The next 4 nights we'll spend in our private accommodation in the heart of the village close to all of the best locations to photograph. You'll enjoy yummy gourmet meals which are just what the doctor ordered when you've spent a few hours each day in the snow photographing.
Here's what we got up to on the workshop in 2017.
DAY ONE (Monday)
Fly into Melbourne airport, I'll be there to take you in my private vehicle to the stunning Dinner Plain in the Victorian High Country. Stopping off along the way, I'll give you all the tips and techniques to get the best from your camera. We'll arrive at our private lodge at Dinner Plain by dinner time, giving us the evening to reflect on our fantastic day before you retire to your own private room.
DAY TWO (Tuesday)
An early start again allows us to capture sunrise just a few steps from our lodge. You'll then spend the day exploring Dinner Plain and it's magnificent snow gums forests. A gourmet meal is waiting for you after your day of photography.
DAY THREE (Wednesday)
Another day of snow photography, we'll be up early to drive to the summit of Mount Hotham enjoy photographing the awesome views. We'll then spend the day exploring Hotham with snow-covered mountains and snow gums.
DAY FOUR (Thursday)
With a day up our sleeve for possible inclement weather, we'll get out and shot some more before downloading our images and I'll provide a comprehensive critique of your images. Many participants have commented that this is one of the most valuable aspects of my workshops.
DAY FIVE (Friday)
After a well-earned sleep in, we'll conduct a final critique of our images before a light lunch and returning to Melbourne airport by 7pm.
Hi I'm Tom Putt and I'll be leading you on this fantastic Snow Photo Workshop. Having been shooting in the snow for the past 5 years intensively now, I know all the best locations intimately and can't wait to share them with you.
A little bit more about me - I am passionate and wildly enthusiastic about photography, having spent the last 20 years exploring all parts of Australia to photograph landscapes.
I first fell in love with photography at age 13. I photographed wildlife, following my love for ornithology, before leaving university to pursue a career in sports photography. In 1998, I was fortunate enough to take the eye of Australia's leading sports photography agency, Sport the Library. From 1998 to 2001, I covered over 300 events across Australia and the world, including the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
But my passion has always been in landscape photography. My first shoot was walking the Overland Track in 1997. Since then, I have travelled extensively across Australia to capture the beauty of this great land.
All our workshops require a good sense of balance and a good level of fitness in order to fully enjoy all the experiences. We regularly walk to fantastic locations for up to an hour at any a time but in one day you could be walking up to 3 to 4 hours in total. This may require walking over uneven ground, rocky surfaces, soft sand, deep snow, up and down hills, rock hopping, hiking to lookouts, etc. Some walks are steep and strenuous, others are on uneven surfaces. To get the best photographs you will be carrying your own backpack with your camera gear, tripod, water and lunch. Whilst we do not look to exclude anyone, being fit is essential to participate fully in the workshop.
