FAR NORTH QUEENSLAND TROPICAL PHOTO WORKSHOP
COASTAL LANDSCAPES, AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY, RAINFOREST LANDSCAPES
I've been visiting Far North Queensland for 20 years...if you've never been, you have to go. If you HAVEN'T been, well where the bloody hell are ya?
You'll love this Far North Queensland Tropical Photography Workshop with:
- A scenic helicopter ride over the Great Barrier Reef
- A full day of waterfalls as we explore 4 different waterfalls south of Cairns
- The stunning Mossman Gorge in the Daintree
- Port Douglas and Seven Mile Beach
After welcoming you at the airport in Cairns, we'll take you to the hotel for you to settle in and freshen up before our introductory dinner. Here I'll go over the plans for the workshop and the fantastic week we'll be having together.
Sunrise over the Coral Sea greets us on this fine morning. All our workshops start the day with a sunrise shoot and end with a sunset shoot. After breakfast we'll head south to photograph the stunning landscape of The Boulders. Rocks carved from wet season after wet season, this creek bed is like no other I've seen in Australia. After lunch we'll concentrate on the main waterfalls that the Cairns region is renown for - Milla Milla, Josephine and Nandroya Falls.
This morning we'll get up early and hit one of the most famous scenic drives in Australia, the road from Cairns to Port Douglas. Taking in sunrise from Rex Lookout with champagne in hand, it will be hard to beat that view. Breakfast in Port Douglas awaits before we head into Mossman Gorge, the gateway to the spectacular Daintree. You'll photograph the stunning greenery of the rainforest and the quiet rainforest streams. For our sunset shoot, we'll head back into Port Douglas to shoot the old wharf and ANZAC Park.
After our sunrise shoot we'll find time to download our photos from the workshop thus far. I'll show you how to use Lightroom to it's very best and then we'll choose a few of our favourites for our famous group critique sessions.
After lunch you'll in for a treat as we jump in a helicopter and fly high over the Great Barrier Reef. You'll be shooting the brilliant colour of the reef and learning the skills in aerial photography.
A sleep in is probably needed on our last morning as the days catch up with us. Another critique sessions consolidates the learnings from the workshop before we say goodbye and head home after lunch.
Hi I'm Tom Putt and I'll be leading you on this fantastic Far North Queensland Tropical Photography Workshop. I just absolutely love the area. The colour, the vibe and the fantastic Far north draw me back time and time again.
A little bit more about me - I am passionate and wildly enthusiastic about photography, having spent the last 20 years exploring all parts of Australia to photograph landscapes.
I first fell in love with photography at age 13. I photographed wildlife, following my love for ornithology, before leaving university to pursue a career in sports photography. In 1998, I was fortunate enough to take the eye of Australia's leading sports photography agency, Sport the Library. From 1998 to 2001, I covered over 300 events across Australia and the world, including the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
But my passion has always been in landscape photography. My first shoot was walking the Overland Track in 1997. Since then, I have travelled extensively across Australia to capture the beauty of this great land.
I am a Master of Photography and have won over 100 Awards in both International and National Competitions. In 2014, I was awarded the International Landscape Photographer of the Year Runner-up.

This may require walking over uneven ground, rocky surfaces, soft sand, deep snow, up and down hills, rock hopping, hiking to lookouts, etc. Some walks are steep and strenuous, others are on uneven surfaces. To get the best photographs you will be carrying your own backpack with your camera gear, tripod, water and lunch.
