Your DETAILED ITINERARY FOR THIS NEW ZEALAND SOUTH ISLAND PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

DAY ONE

You won't get a better introduction to New Zealand. After your spectacular flight over the Southern Alps into Christchurch, we'll greet you at the airport and drive a few hours south along the east coast to Oamaru. After freshening up and breathing in some of the clearest air in the world, we'll have dinner together and  go over our plans for the next few days.

DAY TWO

An early start sees us capturing the glorious morning light on the Moeraki Boulders. Looking more like dinosaur eggs than anything else, they make perfect foregrounds for our landscape photos. After a yummy breakfast we'll head further south to the stunningly beautiful Purakaunai and MacLean Falls. Staying at nearby Kaka Point, this quaint little town will put us nice and close to our sunrise location the next day.

DAY THREE

We'll be up early to capture first light on The Nuggets, a small group of islands off the coast. This is an iconic New Zealand shot. From here we'll head up to Queenstown by early afternoon to checkin to our hotel and download our images from the workshop thus far. In the evening we'll enjoy a yummy meal at one of Queenstown's many fine restaurants.

DAY FOUR

We'll get up for an early morning shoot over the Glenorchy Jetty just 30mins from Queenstown. After breakfast we'll head up the road to the Mount Cook village to checkin to our deluxe accommodation, the famous Hermitage Hotel, which overlooks this famous mountain. You'll enjoy one of the largest buffet dinners in the world at the hotel after our long day - I promise you you'll have to roll out the door!

DAY FIVE

After our yummy breakfast we'll walk it off by trekking up to the Hooker Lake to shot icebergs in this magical lake. After that unbelievable start to the day, we drive to the gorgeous town of Wanaka where we'll visit the local ice-creamery to sample a few of the cheeky homemade ice creams on offer from our friends at Pure New Zealand Ice Cream.

DAY SIX

After shooting the famous Wanaka Tree - yes that tree!! - we'll hit the road towards Franz Josef Glacier where there's many opportunities to stop and photograph the lush rainforest and waterfalls on the West Coast.

DAY SEVEN

This morning we'll take a drive down the road to Lake Mathieson to capture a spectacular scene. The stillness of the lake will perfectly reflect the mountains behind of Mount Cook, New Zealand's highest peak. If that wasn't enough, jump in a helicopter with me and come exploring on Franz Josef Glacier. We'll spend our time photographing the spectacular ice caves as well as taking our helicopter transport up over the New Zealand Alps to photograph sunset.

Driving up the stunning West Coast, we'll stay overnight at Arthur's Pass to enjoy the scenery of our last full day on the South Island.

DAY EIGHT

After a well-earned sleep-in, we'll have breakfast, drive down to Christchurch and say our goodbyes before heading for the airport (insert sad face here...).

TESTIMONIALS from this New Zealand South Island Photography Workshop

"Thank you so much for another amazing workshop. New Zealand is a photographer's dream location and you really made the journey worthwhile. Despite some bad (foul) weather, I think it added to the atmosphere of the images and certainly tested my skills as a photographer. Thank you too for all the post workshop notes, links, downloads, vouchers, etc.  As usual, you have gone above and beyond what was expected." Yvonne, Sydney.

“I have just finished the 2014 New Zealand South Island workshop, this being my second trip with you. Again you have surpassed my expectations, the accommodation was first class, the food was exceptional, the companionship was great. That is all before I talk about the photography. I am amazed at the effort you put into your workshops, you are always there to help, coach and inspire your fellow photographers. I have learn so much from you not just from the shoots that we do, but from the critique sessions you run during the tour. I have also learnt so much about Lightroom flows and post production that my photos have gone to another level just from your teachings.” Paul, Sydney.

"Having been on numerous photographic workshops, our recent trip to New  Zealand is without doubt the very best. Of course the scenery is brilliant, changing each time we went around a corner. What really made it work though is your warm spirited, generous approach to the participants, combined with your skills as a teacher. I came home with some cracking images, and with greatly increased knowledge about how to capture more in the future. Thanks Tom."  Ken, Melbourne

“Thank you for your endless energy and generosity. I never really appreciated how much more there was to photography before coming on your workshops!” Natasha, Brisbane.

“What a great learning experience! I’ve find a lot more in the shots I’ve taken having been on your workshop – thank you!” John, Brisbane

YOUR LEADER

Hi I'm Tom Putt and I'll be leading you on this AMAZING New Zealand Photo Workshop.

A little bit more about me - I am passionate and wildly enthusiastic about photography, having spent the last 20 years exploring all parts of Australia to photograph landscapes.

I first fell in love with photography at age 13. I photographed wildlife, following my love for ornithology, before leaving university to pursue a career in sports photography. In 1998, I was fortunate enough to take the eye of Australia's leading sports photography agency, Sport the Library. From 1998 to 2001, I covered over 300 events across Australia and the world, including the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

But my passion has always been in landscape photography. My first shoot was walking the Overland Track in 1997. Since then, I have travelled extensively across Australia to capture the beauty of this great land.

I am a Master of Photography and have won over 150 Awards in both International and National Competitions. In 2014, I was awarded the International Landscape Photographer of the Year Runner-up.
