Believe it or not, professionals get stuck and get lost for motivation too!
So what do I do as a professional to get out of it?
I do just what’ best - get back to basics.
I ask myself "Why did I get into photography in the first place?"
"What turned me on about getting out and photographing?"
I’ll tell you what did it for me - I love creating. I love expressing myself in a way that illustrates the beauty of the landscape.
So if I can be immersed in the landscape then illustrate that with an image that does the landscape justice, then I’m happy.
Recently, I was struggling.
I decided to go out and shooting an amazing image. I visited a new location here on the Mornington Peninsula and said to myself that I wasn’t going to shoot anything that wasn’t me. Today I was going to shoot what I felt.
I wanted to lift my camera up to a landscape that caught my attention - one the DEMANDED my attention. One was jumping up and down and saying, "Hey what are you waiting for? Quick, capture this!"
trusted myself and took a photograph that I would have taken when I first started out. You know, the one that I wouldn’t have known what the hell I was doing but I would have been guided by my eye and get it anyway.
If you go out and feel it, capture it. If you don’t see anything that turns you on, don’t shoot. Hold yourself to a higher standard. Don’t settle for second best.
